Project CHILD Immunization Tracking System

This project is an attempt to make children's immunization records readily available to health professionals and still maintain confidentiality. Project CHILD is a group of professionals from several disciplines and organizations who are concerned about children's health.

The purpose of the research project is to develop a database system that will allow health professionals to easily access and securely update immunization records. The computer for this project is a DEC Alpha 3000/400 running OSF housed at UNF. The software is a COBOL-based system with embedded SQL to an Oracle DBMS. Access is through VT-100 emulation software over a dialin line or the Internet.

Sun Microsystems has awarded a grant for an Enterprise 450 computer to extend this research. As of August, 1999, the machine has been installed and is being configured. This machine is now housed in and administered by the School of Computing at UNF.

The project has been updated to use HTML CGI Interfaces so that health professionals can access the system through the Internet with a standard Web browser. The new system was released in the Spring of 2001.
